[ARTHALL]
Claude
Gelee, also known as Claude Lorrain (1600-1682), was a leading artist in the
Italian school of landscape painting. His harbor scenes and views of the Roman
countryside had a lasting influence on landscape artists for centuries to come.
In the late 1700?s, during the Romantic period of art, his drawings and
paintings were made into sepia toned mezzotint engravings.
